"a good place to begin" 2010-03-10
By Jeffrey Robinson
I find this third edition focusing on PYTHON 3 to be simple enough for an absolute beginner, but it takes time to work through the chapters and do the exercises. I am about half way through the book without getting hopelessly lost which was my experience with other books. I had no trouble downloading the source material. You are directed to a web site which asks for the author's name. If you enter Dawson you will see the books he has written and can click on this third edition and it downloads cleanly.

 "Don't purchase the Kindle Edition !!" 2010-02-27
By M. Pickett (Denver, CO United States)
I bought this for my kindle, and have been frustrated and discouraged from the beginning.
Its chock full of syntax errors, so any example you type into python is wrong.
Since I'm a beginner trying to learn, I have no idea where the syntax errors are, and have to resort
to online tutorials etc.
Kind of defeats the purpose of buying a book doesn't it ??

"Few changes from 2nd Edition" 2010-02-22
By John C. Pappas (Escondido, CA United States)
As a whole this is a very good training manual full of examples on how to write good code in python. Linking GUI with python is not clear. The book said you could download the source code from a website, this is not correct. The link redirects you to another site and I could not find it. Also there are very few changes from the second addition which did have a CD with all the source code included. Stick with the second edition.

"Book is great but the website given to download files not correct." 2010-01-15
By Jeremiah Johnson
I bought the book and it teaches Python 3.1 which is perfect. The wording and tone Mike uses to tell you how to do something is like he is standing in front of you.

The only issue or complaint i have is the website given for each of the examples to download the file does not work. [...] automatically redirects to [...] I cannot find anywhere on there to download the files that Mike tells you to use. As anyone else been able to download the files that gives to use?

Any help on this would be great.

"Supporting Software Download Not Available." 2010-01-14
By Richard Wanat
The book is excellent but all the comments before this one apply to previous editions. Those editions included a CD with supporting software and all the programs discussed in the book. This third edition (Jan 1, 2010) asks the book owner to connect to a web site to download the support files. The instructions to do this are incorrect as the book now has a new publisher. Once on the web site, the files cannot be found. A phone call to their customer service was unproductive. "Our editorial staff will contact you by e-mail". Didn't happen.
